Life is full of surprises, there is no doubt about that. Sometime the surprises are pleasant and sometimes we cannot help but feel anxious about what the future holds. During uncertain times it becomes even more important to feel confident, secure, and powerful. I am grateful to still be working during these uncertain times, but it doesn’t matter who you are or what your situation is at the moment, it’s important now more than ever to stay positive.
I know that this is not something that you would see me writing about but I think that there are a lot of people out there that need to hear this. So, here are a few powerful ways to stay positive and confident in uncertain times.
Start Each Day with Positivity
It’s said that when we stay rationally positive, we perform better. The reason for this is that a positive mental state produces higher levels of creativity, productivity and performance. Create a morning routine that starts the day out with something positive to get you mind thinking happy thoughts so that you set yourself up for a great day.
Each day is different for me, but I usually rotate my morning between a few routines that take me the same amount of time. I get up, wash my face and grab a cup of coffee. I then move on to an easy yoga flow and if I am not feeling up to yoga I get dressed and ready for the day, water my garden and then sit down at my desk to start my work day.
Define Your Plans and Do Your Best
Any time you have a goal in life, it’s a good idea to map out your potential path to achieving it. This helps you plan your steps to the goal in a constructive and productive manner.
This being said though, sometimes getting to your goal might not go according to plan so it’s important to have a plan B, C, and even D so that you can still get to your goal without losing your head or feeling unsuccessful. Because there are things that are out of your control it’s important to learn from these situations and know that regardless of the result, you have done your best.
Laughter is the Best Medicine
Its scientifically proven that laughing has positive health benefits, some of these include reducing stress, depression and anxiety. It improves self esteem and is an immediate mood booster so give yourself permission to laugh.
Talk to the Positive People in Your Life
Even though you cannot go for a coffee with your best friend right now, technology allows us the opportunity to remain in contact with one another. Set yourself dates with your bestie on FaceTime, Google Hangouts, Skype or Zoom.
Take Your Own Advice
Imagine if someone close to you was going through what you are going through right now? What would you say to them? Often the advice you give to someone else if the best advice for yourself. Take a step back and look at your situation from a different angle and you may be able to give yourself great advice to make it through a situation.
As much as we would like them to be, the above tips are not fool proof. It’s not possible to always be positive and confident and that’s OK. Give yourself permission to feel hurt, sad, and anxious. Look for positivity from the people around you. Thinking positively and confidently is not about burying feelings or avoid difficult situations altogether. It simply means when the ball is in your court play your best game, and when it is in someone else’s court be cool and stress-free.
