So my work colleague, and friend and I sat at work researching how to make your eyebrows grow. She is having issues with patches in her eye brows and it is driving her insane. There were a lot of articles on Pinterest about what you could try at home to help make your eyebrow hair grow and because there were so many, my friend compared the lot and found all the ingredients that were common.
After finding the common ingredients she decided to make her own with some ingredients we had at work and a few that we had at home. Based on the industry we work in, we have access to a lot of the ingredients in a rather pure form. And if not pure, in high concentrations.
This is what the treatment ended up looking like:
What did she put in the eyebrow treatment:
Vitamins A, C, and E
Grape Seed Oil
Sesame Seed Oil
For the vitamins, we have serums at work that have high concentrations of these ingredients in them. They aren't difficult to come by, but they just won't be in the same concentration as what they are in the serums.
The almond oil, castor oil, sesame seed oil, jojoba oil, and coconut oil are easy to come by in most grocers, pharmacies, or even your local wellness and health shop.
About the ingredients:
Castor Oil: this can be used as a remedy for hair loss and it is effective for many reasons. It is anti-bacterial and anti-fungal which helps against folliculitus and the ricinoleic acid content helps with blood circulation to the area and therefore hair growth. Folliculitus can often come from tweezing or waxing, or even threading your eyebrows and so if you are one to regularly shape your eyebrows the castor oil can help avoid this.
Coconut Oil: another anti-bacterial and anti-fungal, nutrient filled substance. Its filled with vitamin E and K and iron, and helps seal in hair moisture. It also helps stimulate blood circulation to the area.
Sesame Seed Oil: another substance the promotes blood circulation to the area. This oil helps the hair regain its health due to its penetrating powers, even for hair thats been damaged by chemicals. So if you tint your eyebrows, the sesame seed oil is great to help regain its health and strength.
Jojoba Oil: known as Wax Ester, this substance is very similar to the oil produce naturally by human skin and by applying it to the skin you balance out the production of oils produced by the skin. It contains vitamins E and B, and copper and zinc. Jojoba oil is capable of moisturizing the hair without leaving any residue and can help the hair cells to reproduce themselves at a rapid rate.
Grape Seed Oil: this oil is great for controlling moisture loss in the hair, and is very similar to jojoba oil.
Almond Oil: this oil has been known to help people that suffer from Alopecia. It is rich in omega, vitamins A, B, and E, as well as zinc. These minerals help to moisturize the hair and scalp, and it is great to leave on the hair.
Vitamin E: this is an antioxidant that helps repair and build tissue. It helps reduce inflammation and repair damaged follicles, and healthy follicles will encourage hair growth.
I use this treatment everyday, and it is part of my morning and evening routine. After my shower in the evenings, I usually then get ready for bed and just apply a small amount of this treatment with a disposable wand and then climb into bed. That way the treatment has the entire evening to soak into my skin and absorb into my eyebrow hairs. I also use it in the mornings before putting my make up on. I usually apply this after applying my face primer just so that it has some time to soak in. I obviously cannot put as much on in the morning as what I would in the evenings because there is far less time for it to soak in. Having this in mind, I usually grab the disposable wand that I used the night before and apply the remaining product onto my eyebrows in the morning. I then do my face make up and by the time I reach my eyebrows the treatment has soaked in enough.
After using this treatment I have noticed the following:
My make up applies 10x smoother. My eyebrow fill used to look blotchy and there used to be areas that looked as if I had applied them darker than the rest. After using this treatment, I find that my eyebrow product glides on with ease and looks even. If you want to check out my latest Eyebrow Routine then click YouTube - Updated Brow Routine.
My eyebrow hair grows incredibly quickly. I usually only look at cleaning up my eyebrows once every 2 weeks, but since starting with this product in my daily routine I have to tweeze or wax, and trim my eyebrows once a week.
My eyebrows actually listen to me. As silly as what this sounds, I cannot stand it when I brush my eyebrows and then the end up back in their original position. Eyebrow hairs naturally grow in different directions but its whether or not you can manipulate this that becomes the challenge. Since starting with this treatment, I can control my eyebrows very easily.
Before using this product, a few days after an eyebrow wax or shaping, I would get a random spot that would need to be squeezed or I would find that the follicles would still look irritated the day after a wax. The castor oil has stopped any of these things happening again. I have not had irritated follicles, nor have I had a spot after my waxes.
This is what my eyebrows looked like before and after using the treatment:
You can notice that my eyebrow looks a little bit thicker. For me personally, I did not find that my eyebrows looked a lot thicker, I just found that the hairs grew a lot faster. It is more a case of them feeling healthy and hydrated, and my make up applies easier.
Would I recommend this treatment to everyone? Yes, I definitely would. If you don't need it for hair growth then at least use it for conditioning, like myself. I did not need my eyebrows to grow more but they have certainly become a lot healthier and I have less complications with my eyebrows.
