Guest Interview | Breadsticks and Blush, Anne Doli
June 22, 2018
Breadsticks and Blush is a personal blog about things that make life interesting. From food, fitness, beauty, book and movie reviews to random life advice, I have you covered.
The blog was created to share things and ideas that inspire me, things that get me excited and just my random thoughts on my life’s journey.
1.What inspired you to write about food?
I have been a vegetarian since birth, by choice. I am the only one in the family. There isn’t a lot of blogs focusing on vegetarian food, nor is there enough education around it. People still think that veggie food is bland and can’t possibly be as nutritious as meat-based dishes. I want to show people that this does not have to be true.
2.How would you describe your site to new readers?
It’s me. No airs and graces and a collection of topics that range from fun to rather serious.
3.What is your take on organic food, is it a big deal for you?
To be honest, I’m not obsessed with organic food. As long as it’s fresh and full of the good stuff, I don’t really care where it’s from. I get that it’s a huge deal for meat eaters because it’s got a lot to do with how the animals are treated, but as a veggie, I’m not too fazed.
4.You try a new recipe and it does not turn out the way you had planned, what do you do?
If it still tastes okay, I eat it…but if not, I throw it away and start from scratch.
5.What are your three favourite ingredients?
Cheese, garlic and pepper.
6.What are you 3 worst ingredients?
Chicken stock, anise seed and leeks.
7.What is your favourite local restaurant? Why?
I absolutely love Café del Sol and Salsa. Because these restaurants focus on Italian and Mexican cuisines there’s always a lot more vegetarian options than other restaurants. Café del Sol’s gorgonzola gnocchi is pure perfection and Salsa makes the best nachos in Joburg…and you can quote me on that.
8.Give your top food blog that inspire you the most?
10.What is the most memorable dish that you have made?
I am the queen of mac and cheese but haven’t shared my secret recipe on the blog yet. One of my proudest moments from last year was when I perfected my veggie patty recipe. It’s extremely easy to make.
